Opti-Form® Honing Wheels deliver improved performance, reduce cost
The most common method of manufacturing honing wheels involves slotting the individual tooth spaces into the ceramic (or polymeric) bonded ring shaped base bodies. This operation is done on custom designed slotting machines using diamond coated form-discs. But like most indexing processes, it is prone to errors in run-out and pitch, requiring that the manufacturer leave a certain amount of stock on the honing wheel. Then when the wheel is first used on a honing machine, this stock has to be removed in a time-consuming and costly dressing operation.

Now, Gleason has eliminated this extra operation with introduction of Opti-Form™ honing wheels. Just as the name suggests, these honing wheels are manufactured at higher quality in form and run-out and thus come with less initial stock. This improvement in quality is made possible by pre-dressing the honing wheels. Benefits to the customer are immediately apparent:

Less stock  =  less dressing time  =  higher productivity, less dressing tool wear

Opti-Form honing wheels are available in these dimensions:
Outside diameter:          270, 300, 350 and 400 mm
Width:                          up to 60 mm
Normal module:             0.8 - 5 mm
